Schmeichel’s deal expires at the end of next season and the 35-year-old recently said he could ‘try somewhere else’ before he retires.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said: ‘He’s been a brilliant servant here and he’s currently playing at a really high level.

‘We will have a good chat (about his contract) and get an idea of what he’s thinking.’

Schmeichel would not discuss his future in any detail, with his only focus being trying to guide Leicester into the last four of the Europa Conference League.

He said: ‘These nights provide something different for players and fans. These are moments in history we are fighting every day to experience.’
