Pep Guardiola admits Man City ‘are in big trouble’ ahead of key games after Kevin De Bruyne AND Kyle Walker limp off within eight second-half minutes of each other in brutal Atletico Madrid clash

  • Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker both went off injured in Atletico Madrid clash
  • Both men are crucial for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola will be concerned
  • City have FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool coming up this weekend
  • And if the injuries are serious, they could miss more crucial games

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City could be ‘in big trouble’ after key duo Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker hobbled off injured against Atletico Madrid.

As expected, it was a hugely physical encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano against Diego Simeone’s side, famed for their use of football’s dark arts.

City dug deep to see out the game 0-0 and progress 1-0 on aggregate to the semi-finals of the Champions League against Manchester City.

But Guardiola has been left wondering what the cost of that progression might be after seeing De Bruyne and Walker come off within eight second half minutes of each other.

The Spaniard told BT Sport: ‘We are in big trouble, so we can’t forget we played three days ago, travelled, come here, have a lot of injuries now and I don’t know what will happen in the next weeks but today we celebrate because it is the third time in Manchester City’s history we are in the Champions League semi-finals.

‘We cannot play all the time and score four or five goals, we are human beings – we come from a difficult game against Liverpool.’

De Bruyne, who has suffered his share of injuries in the past, appeared to suffere a muscular problem chasing after a ball.

He walked off gingerly when he was replaced and City will hope it is only a minor problem.

City have 12 matches over the next six weeks and harbour ambitions of winning the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League.

It seems unlikely that De Bruyne and Walker will be fit in time to face Liverpool this weekend, which could give the advantage to Jurgen Klopp’s men, many of whom were rested for the second leg draw with Benfica on Wednesday night.

City fans will be desperate for news that both players are only hampered by short-term problems and can contribute over the coming weeks.
